Dancing in the Tree Tops

Saturday 21 May 2016

Once on a school trip for Art, we were made to abseil off a cliff (no idea where the artistic link was here). I remember it well because I curled up in a ball and cried the whole way down. This was when I realised I am scared of heights

So why on earth I was super excited to go to Go Ape in Delamere Forest  is beyond me but it has honestly been one of my best days out in a long time!

Before we got going, our lovely instructor Dan taught us how to use the safety equipment and broke the news that we'd be responsible for clipping ourselves securely on and off the different obstacles (eek!!). But we soon got the hang of it after practicing on much lower down versions of the course and set off into the woods, ready for our feet to leave the safety of the ground...

I won't lie, I did feel a bit sick and shaky at times but the views made it worth it. It really was stunning and it was lovely that there was only me and Kevin about so all we could hear were the birds...lots of birds!

If we did come across any trouble then we had a little whistle in our pockets and the instructors were always a shout away.

It was pretty tiring stuff, the hardest being one where all you had was dangling stirrups to get you across the trees and meant using all of your core strength. Happy hour was very much welcomed after that one!!

The course is made up of 5 sites which gradually get higher and higher, with the highest one being 12 metres high!!! I hear in Grizedale Forest they have one that's 18 metres!! It was great for people like me that are a scared as you get used to it by the end and I really did feel safe (after checking I was clipped in 15 times before tackling the next crossing!).

Each obstacle was different and fun! The scariest one was the big Tarzan swing at the end as you are then 100% relying on the safety equipment and having to take that leap of faith! I was close to tears but just went for it and felt so proud of myself after I did it. If you get jittery at heights then my advice is to just throw yourself into it and trust me you'll feel amazing afterwards!

If you're really not feeling it then they always have a slightly less daunting path when it comes to the harder obstacles so you can opt out :)

It took us around 2 hours to complete the course, including the training at the start and cost £33 each..which is a tad expensive but I had such a good time that I would almost say it's worth it!

Go Ape do Segway tours through the woods so I think that'll be our next sunny day adventure!!

How to be a morning person

Saturday 14 May 2016

I am that extremely annoying person that's up at the crack of dawn and is irritatingly chirpy (most of the time). Skipping down the stairs, dancing around the kitchen, the odd twirl here and there.... Here's a few tips on making the start of your day less of a challenge!

1. Leave a little gap in your curtains so the natural light wakes you up. I always feel so much fresher if I wake up naturally compared to having an alarm screaming in my ear!

2. Make your bed as soon as you get up. It'll stop you being tempted to jump back in, make your room instantly look tidier and you'll already start to feel productive.

3. Open your curtains wide to let in all the light :)

4. Plan a delicious breakfast...food motivates me to do a lot of things, getting out of bed is one of them. I recommend trying my  Lazy one pan mexican brunch  or cheesy bacon and egg cups!

5. Make a feel good playlist to listen to whilst getting ready. Here's some of my favourites to start the day *warning: they're pretty cheesy*:

Yes they're all soundtracks from films...what can I say, I like to pretend my life is a movie...

6. Jump in the shower (and the blood starts pumpin') - Dolly Parton knows the score...there's nothing like a shower to wake you up. Singing and dancing helps.

7. It's common sense really but having an earlier night really does make a difference to how you feel in the morning. Know how many hours you need to feel decent and make sure you get them. I aim for 7hrs minimum - we're all different.

8. Get up around the same time every day - routine is key! I usually wake up around 7-8am during the week and usually end up getting up around then at the weekend too. Have to make the most of any time off :)!!!

If you'be got any other tips, let me know in the comments!!

Lazy One Pan Mexican Brunch

Sunday 1 May 2016

Sundays are made for brunching, but this can get pricey if you always eat out. I decided to throw a few delicious ingredients into a pan and make up my own! It's perfect for those of you who hate washing up (does anyone not hate it?) and you can use up pretty much anything in your cupboards.

My concoction requires the following ingredients (serves 2 very hungry people):

1 sliced red pepper
1/4 of a chorizo chopped
Tomato puree
1 tin of chopped tomatoes
1 tin of chickpeas, drained
1 tsp honey
Spices (I used cumin and piri piri spice)
Mixed herbs
1 chopped red chilli
2 eggs
Grated cheddar

1. To start, heat some olive oil in a pan and fry your red peppers till they're soft and have a slight charcoaled edge to them. Then add your chopped chorizo and fry for about 2-3mins.

2. Add a squeeze of tomato puree and then chopped tomatoes, before mixing in all of your chosen spices and chopped chilli. Just use as much as you want, but I think this dish works well with lots of heat!!

3. Chuck in the chickpeas and then stir in the honey for a bit of extra sweetness then leave to simmer for 3 minutes.

4. Part the mixture and crack in a couple eggs and then cook for a further 5 minutes or until the eggs are cooked.

5. Sprinkle on the grated cheese and serve straight from the pan with some warm crusty bread for dipping!!!  I bet toasted tortillas would also work well here.

ENJOY!!! :)

If you're a big brunch fan then why not try my cheesy bacon and egg breakfast cups?
