My Little Work Space

Sunday 28 September 2014

I'm writing this whilst sitting in my pyjamas, cuppa in hand (Yorkshire of course!) and trying to recover from the dreaded fresher's flu! Yep, I'm back at Uni and have had one of the most fun and crazy weeks of my life going out with my friends and meeting new ones! Of course this has meant I haven't had much time to blog but since I have a couple hours this Sunday morning whilst my house mates are in bed recovering from last night's antics, I thought I'd share my little desk set up with you as lectures start again tomorrow!

I think it's so important to have somewhere pleasant to sit and do work because work is hard enough as it is, so why not make it as nice as possible?! As you can see there are plenty owls on there..I brought my owl chalk board with me from home as it's great for writing little reminders on or 'feel good' quotes for the harder times.

My fairy lights were only a few pounds from primark and make my room so cosy in the evening if I'm just writing emails or doing something a bit more relaxing than writing up uni notes!

The desk actually came with the house and has a magnetic white board on it. It's so handy...I'm sure it'll be plastered with all sorts of reminders and things I must learn in the near future.

If anyone else has done a post on their uni room, I'd love to see so please comment below! I do like a good nosey :)

A Touch of Sparkle

Wednesday 17 September 2014

Now I'm definitely not the best at painting nails...in fact I hardly even have any nails so as much as I love the look of nail varnish, I rarely have the patience to sit and do my own. However, when I saw this Color Show Crystallize by Maybelline in Tesco for only £1.99 (reduced price) I just had to get it.

The sparkles are perfect for all the upcoming festivities; Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas!! I chose the Rose Chic shade but they did have lots of other colours with the same sparkly effect. The varnish goes on really easily too and I only needed to do one layer - so easy yet effective!

I think I'll have to pop back to Tesco and grab a few more shades before they run out :)

Visiting Cambridge

Monday 15 September 2014

I spent the weekend in Cambridge to visit a friend. It consisted of beautiful views and eating lots! Some of the colleges were like something from Harry Potter and I can't believe the students get to live in such amazing buildings!

We planned to try punting on our last day but unfortunately the weather let us down, as well as the fact we were feeling rather rough from a night out..I did get plenty photos of the punts though and we even saw a married couple punting which was such a cute idea.

Saturday morning started off with the delicious fry up pictured above..it even came with HASH BROWNS!!! A Full English essential that so many cafes forget tsk!! We also had afternoon tea this day...I regret nothing.

Sunday started off slow as we'd been out the night before and had some sleep to catch up on.We then spent all afternoon in the park having a picnic with some more friends. The rain held off long enough for us to finish eating but not long enough for us to find proper shelter so we all huddled under an umbrella that only one of us was sensible enough to remember!

Little Bits in My Room

Wednesday 10 September 2014

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I've been working on my room over the Summer. I still want to get a new double bed but it is pretty much there now..although I'm sure I'll keep finding things that would fit in nicely.

My Bargain Find!
I had a stool under my dressing table before which wasn't new and had a few make up stains on it so I was keeping an eye out for a replacement. I'd been looking at chairs similar to this one online but they cost hundreds of pounds! Well I came across this little gem at a country show for only £25!!! I couldn't believe it. The women selling it buy old chairs and do them up as a hobby so this is also a one of a kind piece! I love the Cath Kidston Style floral pattern of it and the colour of the wood matches the rest of the furniture in my room - bonus!

I love burning candles in my room when I curl up with a book in bed. The smells and lighting are so relaxing! I really have to stop myself buying too many, especially if they're Yankee and in the sale eeeek!

Here's a few photos from the last few weeks!

1.A few of my girlies decided to catch up and do something a little different so we booked afternoon tea at a very posh hotel! The Scones were fresh out the oven and were easily some of the best I've tried! As well as all the cakes pictured above we got a silver tray of  lots of different sandwiches, including cucumber (told you it was posh!!!)

2. This is my terrapin Squirt! I've had her for about 10 years now and she's so comical at times. She always splashes me when she gets excited about feeding time. I love this photo of her, she has her leg up against the glass like she's posing - such a little diva..

3. I recently bought this jumper from Debenhams as I'm getting excited about Autumn and being able to get all cosy with cuppas and comfort food. I'm making a real effort to accessorise more often as I have so many nice things that I love but I'm just not in the habit of putting them on. This watch was a surprise Christmas present from my brother. I love Olivia Burton watches, they're so pretty.

4. This is a shot I take every time I go on this walk. I haven't been there at dusk much so I had to capture the calmness. Such a relaxing place.

5. Here I am, all smiles in the knowledge that yummy food was on its way! I love eating out, this unfortunately is a love that I can't actually afford but am always determined to do. This spontaneous two course lunch was followed by a cute little walk to a nearby river to see the ducks :)

6. And finally, here's my cheeky chocolate fudge cake (recipe below!) I am very into my baking lately, especially with GBBO on tv. I'll get healthier when I go back to uni I promise!
